Bamenda

The city of Bamenda is located in the Northwest region of Cameroon, about 6 houres drive from both Douala & Yaoude. Most of the population speak English or Cameroonian Pidgin English. The number of inhabitants is estimated at around 400 000 people.
Thanks to its location in a hilly region, 1,200 meters above the sea level, Bamenda enjoys a very nice cool weather. The dry season starts in October and ends in April/May.
During dry season, the temperature is about 30ºC to 35ºC during the day and 20ºC at night. The rainy season is the rest of the year, with heavy rains in July and August. At this time, temperatures fall between 25ºC and 30ºC.
The beautiful surrounding mountains offer plenty of opportunity for trekking, visiting traditional chiefdoms, water falls, crater lakes...

Accomodation

LIVELIHOOD NGO can help you to find an accomodation in Bamenda.

  • For a short stay (less than a month), staying in a hotel would be the best solution. It can cost from 5,000 to 20,000 fr. CFA/night (7,5 to 30 euros)
  • If you wish to stay one month or more, we can help you to find a house for rent. It typically costs from 35,000 to 50,000 fr. CFA/month. (50 to 75 euros)
Meals

Eating in Cameroon is usually very cheap, in basic restaurants you pay less than 1 euro for a good meal. If you cook by yourself it is even cheaper. You will find plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits in the local markets. Bamenda's supermarkets offer a lot of western goods. Some restaurants prepare western food.

Money

You can withdraw money with International VISA card in a couple of banks in the city center.
